FotoFest is a Houston-based contemporary arts organization founded by photojournalists Fredrick Baldwin and Wendy Watriss. FotoFest is dedicated to advancing discourse surrounding photography and visual culture through the presentation of images and photographic media in exhibitions, public programs, and publishing projects. At the forefront of FotoFest’s mission is the examination of social, cultural, and political histories and contemporary conditions through the lens of photography, contemporary art, theory, and media studies. In addition to the organization’s year-round programming, FotoFest organizes a city-wide biennial project in the form of large-scale central exhibitions, curated lectures, performances, a symposium, and film programs. The organization also hosts several professional development programs, including annually-held Meeting Place Portfolio Reviews, which host over 450 artists and 150 professionals working in the field of art and photography. Through its Literacy Through Photography program, FotoFest organizes K-12 classroom-based learning projects designed to encourage creativity and strengthen student writing, comprehension, and expression. A platform for art and ideas since 1983, FotoFest is committed to promoting lasting international dialogue, cultural exchange, and scholarship by working with the artists, academics, curators, and influential figures in art, politics, and activism that shape and frame our world.

Momentos en Mexico
About This Exhibit:
There are many things to love about our neighbor to the south…Mexico.
These are just a very few of mine.
The spirit of the place and its people live in these moments.
And lest not we forget the words of Jesus as recorded by Matthew,
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Love and respect begin with embracing and living into the Golden Rule.
It all starts with you, in this very moment.

Art Worth

11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Art Worth is an exciting new festival in Fort Worth, Texas, October 21, 22 & 23, 2022. This juried festival of fine craft and fine art will be held on the lawn of Will Rogers Memorial Center within view of six museums, in the heart of Fort Worth’s Cultural District. This impressive collection of cultural resources also includes three theaters and the Will Rogers Center, a bustling hub for special events. Our show will occupy the park-like plaza at the center of these institutions.
Art Worth will be an immersive experience aimed at heightening general appreciation for, and understanding of, art. Guests will be surrounded with art, and have the opportunity to learn about it through conversations with the people who make it.  The festival will also present Fort Worthians with chance to visit to enjoy classical music, food and wine, and visit with friends in the beautiful setting that forms the heart of the Cultural District; guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and make a day (or three days) of it.
Art Worth is for two sets of people, who we hope to bring together through this event. Group A is comprised of artists; our primary goal is to assist artists in their ability to make a living through their work. Group B is pretty much everyone else; even if you aren’t in the market to buy anything, we all need to expose ourselves to as much art as possible. In doing that, we learn to discern what is good and not so good.
Rest assured that at Art Worth, one will only see really good work, and experiencing that can help to give one the confidence to recognize what might be not so good in some future encounter.  That’s another reason we love fine-craft; people are always reticent to express a critical opinion of a painting: is it good or not? is the question subjective? do I need an MFA to even weigh in?
One can, however, easily become a confident judge of fine craft: once one observes the beautifully finished underside of a piece of pottery, and then picks up a piece of pottery with a rough, table-scratching foot, one can take pride in having acquired the ability to recognize good and not good: finishing is everything!
